HAT TRICK!

So, after a spell of ‘why do I write, again?’ with much crying on my extremely lovely writer friends’ shoulders. Oh, and causing my hubby to get that glazed look which means, ‘I’m pretending to listen, but the grass growing outside is more interesting.’ SUDDENLY, like buses on the number 47* route, three came along at once. YES. SALES. My Weekly bought three of my stories all on the same day. All on the same email. All at the same time. I’m so very thrilled, and a trifle gobsmacked, quite frankly.

So thanks everyone for supporting, and listening to me whinge. I’m living proof that a scary amount of rejections in one week can be followed by great news. So it looks like we just have to keep on going then. You know, if we want to get where we want to be – even if we do stumble and fall from time to time...YES? Well I'm up for giving it a go...

*The number 47 route is being used for example purposes only. No buses were harmed in the writing of this blog post.

I'm delighted to see that you, your keen wit, and your charm are gracing the blogosphere once again. Welcome back!

Re The Photo: Is this a cloaked message to indicate that doubles and trebles are on the agenda?

Keep smiling, Boonsong

That is amazing news. Three sales to My weekly! Well done.

p.s. I'm glad no buses were harmed or I might have had to report to the NSPB (the National Society for the Protection of Buses).

Well done Mandy - hooray. I had a very similar experience earlier this month - dead silence apartr from endless rejections, then three commissions all in the same day! I suppose the trick is to remember ths next time it happens!

I found your blog through the Writer's Forum article. I love your style and I can totally relate to what you say. I'm so impressed and I recognise the glazed expression you mention that my husband also has when I talk about my writing.
CONGRATULATIONS on your successes!
You’ve inspired me to create my own blog (http://scribbleandedit.blogspot.com/2010/08/in-beginning.html) though I can’t understand how to create more pages than just the home page! Early days I guess.
All the Best

Thanks Suzanne xx

Thank you, P & P - I was pretty shocked and still have to keep checking the email, making sure I didn't read it wrong! :-)

Hi Amanda
I was just thinking your next buzz will be when you can see the magazines on the newsagent shelves and can hold your printed stories in your hands. Thrilling!
let us know when they appear won't you?

Amanda said...

That's right, Madeleine. I remember my first sale to My Weekly (first sale ever!) took five months to appear. I was in Sainsbury's when I saw it - I almost danced about the shop. And then bought five copies! I'm still not sure why. :-))

Five months! Goodness you must've laughed at my yesterday's post then. I'd be in a straight jacket for sure! We do have to have lots of patience as freelancers don't we!
I laughed at the buying 5 copies thing! I wrote an article for a fellow cloth figure artist and her hubby bought all the magazines on WHS shelves to send to their family in India, so you are in good company. She was so embarrassed.

That is just brilliant news - well done you! And so well deserved.

Yes, it's a game of patience, Madeleine - trouble is I haven't got a lot either. The best thing, I find, is to get lots of things out there, then you're not focusing on one thing. :-)

Great minds, Debs x

Thanks Bluestoking Mum - that's very kind. x

Ms Allsorts, just checking to make sure you haven't got buried under a mountain of words ;-) TFx

'Ello TF, I'm still here. Thanks for checking :-) I'm such a terrible blogger just lately. Hope you are taking lots of lovely photos and you are well! x
